This is a quick message. I am an Egyptian Baha’i and came across your reply to zeinobia and got interested. There is a lot going on about the faith in Egypt now. We won a court case against the government to allow us to write our faith in IDs and birth certificates. They were making us write either Muslim or Christian. And the house asked us to refuse to receive such documents so many of us have no IDs birth certificates etc. and its hard to do much. So we filed a law suite and won it last month. But the government is refusing to grant it and revoked the ruling etc and therefore a commotion is going on about the faith. And as usual those against us came up with the usual accusations of being Zionist etc. any way its a big commotion and you can tell from this lady that their worry is still the same. They don’t want to accept anyone who doesn’t trash Israel left right and center. Maybe you can point out also that the arab-israeli conflict isn’t the only racial based one. The genocide in Rwanda is one of them. Are Russian bahá’ís supposed to trash Chechens to prove they are law abiding citizens? Or do Serb Baha’i insult kosovar? Bahá’ís were placed in concentration camps in Nazi Germany because they wouldn’t agree with the idea of the superiority if the Arian race.
Some Egyptians now believe in basic human rights but the minute they hear that our hoply ,and is in Israel they start fighting the idea and talk about getting rid of us. In fact on that TV program, that guy she believed wasn’t supposed to be even there was insulting us and said that we better leave the country and just give peace to Egypt. Why do we stay why not just go and leave, etc.
Any way those are disturbing times and the House asked us to let it go. Just clarify issues to friends and colleagues.
Just remember the bahá’ís of Egypt in your prayers.

This is quick.
First happy declaration day to you. Second yes yo can go ahead and publish it. Third the papers go on talking. And the 4th episode of that program was aired on Saturday and it was explosive. Big wigs from the Azhar were saying we are infidels to be killed and exterminated. And a magazine published a picture of Bahá’u’lláh. Plus some other religious news papers issuing decrees to make us outcasts or something so it goes on. But trials are signs of victories. So keep praying.

Apesar de insistires com este assunto respeitante á situação dos bahá'ís no Egipto penso que estás a agir correctamente porque é nosso dever denunciar estes pérfidos acontecimentos e, por outro lado, ao prestarmos um tributo a estas comunidades perseguidas estamos a "amadurecermos".

Na verdade, publico isto porque não posso fazer mais nada. Trata-se de um caso de negação de direitos cívicos com base em fundamentos religiosos. Apesar de isto se passar noutro país, com uma cultura bem diferente da nossa, trata-se de um problema de atropelo de direitos humanos. E os direitos humanos são universais.
Claro que o que se passa com estes baha'is egípcios está longe de ser o problema mais grave que se vive naquele país. Mas é um problema que me toca especialmente. Que mais posso fazer além de dar a conhecer a situação?
Marco compreendo-te perfeitamente, também eu perante certas situações me sinto revoltado e frustrado por nada poder fazer, tu pelo menos tens esta tribuna e pelos vistos as tuas intervenções chegam longe.
Deixa-me dizer-te que admiro a tua capacidade de relativizar as coisas, não é por seres bahai que tomas os problemas dos bahais como o principal mal do mundo, embora te doa de uma forma especial. É importante não perder essa capacidade, não pensar que uma vida vale mais que outra só porque pertence a alguém do nosso grupo. À custa de pensar assim é que chegamos a esta onda de intolerância e violência em que a velha lei do olho por olho acabará por deixar todos cegos.
Quanto a mim confrontado com a situação doas bahais no Egipto e no Irão, só me apetece dizer, perafraseando Kennedy,: EU SOU UM BAHAI!
